Communications and Social Media Manager

We are recruiting on behalf of outdoor travel and lifestyle company, located in downtown Toronto.  

 Our client is seeking a Communications and Social Media Manager who is passionate about representing the industry to our members, the media, and general public, while furthering their messaging around the outdoor lifestyle. They need someone who is a self-starter and who is agile in their ability to dive into whatever is needed, while driving social media and overall communications and marketing strategy, in partnership with the vendors they engage. Someone who can roll up their sleeves and lead on any number of projects simultaneously – and wants to be a part of their continuing success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee day-to-day social media and content marketing strategy and implementation
  • Create and deploy informative and appealing content for social posts, blogs, landing pages, email newsletter, based on strategy, audience and the overall goals and objectives of the organization
  • Responsible for driving audience growth and engagement against a set of digital KPIs
  • Keep up-to-date on trends with the latest social media best practices and technologies, along with top influencers, competitors, and trends within the outdoors space
  • Co-manage influencer bookings and trips alongside our agency partners including contract development, campground booking, dealer coordination and act as main contact during activations
  • Liaise and coordinate with Ambassador Network to help develop stories and asset creation
  • Assist with writing and development of bi-monthly email newsletters
  • Create engaging visuals that reflect our brand using design software and existing asset library
  • Build content calendars and manage deployment with appropriate timelines for posting
  • Establish processes and standards for content planning, approvals and execution
  • Prepare and produce agency decks and communication deliverables to key stakeholders
  • Assist with website content and blog updates as needed
  • Liaise regularly with digital director and operations manager to evolve the overall digital strategy
  • Assess new opportunities and proposals as well as support strategic implementation of these initiatives
  • Act as brand steward to ensure all marketing and communications materials are on-brand and on-strategy
  • Set up and produce various performance and activity reports generated from the digital marketing management and administration tools
    • Participate and help to drive traffic to trade shows nationally through awareness campaigns and contesting
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years’ relevant work experience within marketing/communications and social media
  • Excellent communication skills, exceptional interpersonal abilities, strong organizational skills, and proven ability to handle member feedback in a professional manner.  
  • Knowledgeable and/or passionate about the Outdoors/Leisure/Tourism industries
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with current social media tactics and platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.) 
  • Experience with social management tools, social listening tools and web analytics
  • Ability to research trends, create and curate content to post to various social media platforms and update regularly on our bilingual website
  • Be able to design, update and implement email campaigns using online tools (ie. Campaign monitor).
  • Knowledgeable about current social media trends, innovations and best practices, web content SEO and how all content operates within the business’s marketing funnel. 
  • Solid understanding of content marketing, SEO, and social media analytics
  • Ability to design visuals for social media with image creation software or design tools such as Photoshop, Canva or similar
  • Must be a self-starter with excellent organizational and time management skills; able to excel under minimal supervision
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, working knowledge of Adobe creative suite and online email software
 Additional Assets:
  • Experience with video creation and video creation tools, and print production
  • Media planning, public relations agency relationship management
  • Bilingual (working written knowledge of French)
  • Experience with events coordination a definite asset

More about the role:
  • Full-time/permanent opportunity
  • Some flexibility in hours (some additional work outside office hours may be required)
  • Some travel will be required (board meetings, annual conferences/workshops, sponsorship events, Trade shows, etc.)
  • Located downtown Toronto in Liberty Village; occasional remote work can be discussed/accommodated
